the details
Akron schools consolidated into one campus, and one building to be more efficient with resources and space. Knowing that the BEST grant would not allow the school to build an equal sized gymnasium, the new building was added onto the 28,000 square foot field house. The adjoining spaces were remodeled, old classrooms were demolished and a two story classroom addition completed the project.
An agricultural theme was subtly introduced into the design with use of color and patterns representing an aerial view of the area. A custom rail at the adjoining bridge on the second floor was a stylistic design of a field. The colors of blues, greens, oranges and yellows were subdued yet interesting and welcoming.

This rural district needed to keep students that were traveling to neighboring communities. My team worked with Miami-Yoder to master plan their tight site to maximize efficiency while also updating and replacing their outdated building. This was done in two phases; the plan started before the Colorado BEST program was enacted, and a second phase was funded with the BEST funds.
The district got a new middle school and high school wing, gymnasium, commons, cafeteria, library, vocational spaces and new school and district offices.

a Pk-8 was created to consolidate two older schools.
the design that took shape divided the spaces into different themes.
the middle school wing represented earth science and the carpet stripes on the floor were placed, in scale to represent the different levels of the earth.
the elementary wing was flora and fauna and was more subtle with variegated greens for the ground and soft blues for the sky.
